The quiet relief of owning lessEl alivio silencioso de tener menos

A calm living room with few objects

Owning less is not a personality. It is maintenance. Most rooms feel crowded because objects arrived one by one and never had to justify staying.

If it does not earn its place this month, it can leave.

Start with one drawer

A whole house is too big a promise. Empty one drawer onto the floor. Keep what you used in the last month. Box the rest for a week. If you do not open the box, it can go.

Surfaces are not storage

A table that holds mail, keys, a charger and yesterday's cup is already working too hard. Clear it at night. The morning looks different when the first thing you see is wood, not a pile.

One in, one out

When something new comes in — a shirt, a pan, a book — something similar leaves. The rule is boring. That is why it works.

Keep what you actually like

Less is not punishment. Keep the mug you reach for, the blanket you use, the book you will finish. The relief comes from the things that no longer ask for a decision.
